One of the assailants was caught by the neighbours, who beat him up and handed him to police.
The men entered the siblings' ground-floor home around 5 pm and first hit Manish on the head with a blunt object, police said. They found Sarita watching TV inside a room and slit her throat. Before leaving they stabbed Manish in the stomach.
But the siblings' cries for help alerted the neighbours who caught one of the assailants, identified by police as Mani Shankar. Police said he was heavily drunk and not in a condition to give a statement.
Madanpal, from the adjoining building, said: "We heard loud sounds and went out to check. Manish was outside his home, blood was oozing from his head. He told us that they had been attacked. His sister was lying inside the bedroom with her throat slit."
Madanpal said a few shopkeepers caught one of the assailants who was drunk.
"He will take some time to reveal the motive behind the murder. He is still in an inebriated state. It appears that the woman was murdered because of a tiff the family had with the accused persons," a senior police officer said.
Police said the siblings were alone at home when the attackers barged in. Police have collected fingerprint samples from the house.
In their statement, police said while there was no forced entry in the house, there was some ransacking, indicating a robbery gone wrong.
Neighbours said Manish told them that he suspected the driver, who had quit a few months ago, was behind the murder. Sarita married in February last year and had come to visit her parents a week ago. Manish is a student of Class X.
